Join us as we watch the sun set Wednesday from the Alameda shoreline.

How much do you know about the East Bay city? Mark Twain described it in his autobiography as the “the garden of California.”

The city, located along the eastern edge of the San Francisco Bay, is just south of Oakland and has a population of about 78,000. It includes both Alameda Island and Bay Farm Island. Alameda was founded June 6, 1853 and encompasses just over 23 square miles. The city was incorporated in 1872.

Miles of shoreline offer residents and visitors views of the San Francisco skyline, access to several beaches and birdwatching. Popular destinations include Robert W. Crown Memorial State Beach, Crab Cove Visitor Center and Alameda Beach. But make sure to check before you visit: Access may be limited due to the coronavirus pandemic.
