Coronavirus economy: Santana Row in San Jose reopens some shops, restaurants
SAN JOSE — Santana Row in San Jose has opened some shops for in-store retailing and some restaurants for outdoor dining, the destination retail center said Friday in a welcome counterpoint to coronavirus-linked business shutdowns.
Seven retailers are now open for in-store shopping and services at Santana Row, according to Federal Realty Investment Trust, the principal owner of the mixed-use commercial complex.
In addition, six restaurants are now open for outdoor dining, Federal Realty said.
“We are excited to welcome you back to Santana Row,” the shopping center stated in a post on its web site.
Retailers that are open at Santana Row: Boutique Harajuku, Franco Uomo, Free People, Laser Away, Penelope Boutique, Sleep, and Tranquility Dental have opened for in-store services and shopping. Franco Uomo was open by appointment only.
Restaurants open for outdoor dining at Santana Row: Amber India, Maggiano’s Little Italy, Ozumo, Pizza Antica, Rosie McCann’s Irish Pub & Restaurant, and Zazil Mexicana Cocina.
An array of orders from state and local government agencies to stop the spread of coronavirus have hobbled business operations or forced them to shut their doors altogether under mandates that began to roll out in mid-March. On Friday, Santa Clara County officials began to allow indoor shopping and outdoor dining, along with other activities.
Federal Realty also conducted a re-launch of a different part of the Santana Row hub, resuming construction of a big office building across the street from the main center.
One Santana West, a modern office building expected to attract a tech company as its tenant, resumed construction in May on Winchester Boulevard near Olsen Drive. The new office building totals 375,000 square feet and is the vanguard of what is to be a vast tech campus.
“Shops and restaurant hours may vary during the re-opening phase,” Santana Row stated. “Additionally, contact-less curb-side pick-up options will continue to be available at Santana Row.”
